Alexion Installs Ambitious Solar PV System
Alexion has a long-standing commitment to energy conservation and to the communities in which it operates. The company recently installed a solar PV system on the rooftop of its corporate headquarters and research facility in Cheshire, Conn. This system will produce more than 329,000 kWh of power annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of 380,000 lbs of CO2 emissions per year.
This solar project is just one step the people of Alexion are taking to invest in
responsible environmental choices. Alexion's robust sustainability initiatives include
the retrofitting of lighting, heating, cooling and control systems, and an onsite
recycling program, participation in the LEED green building rating system, and planning
for alternative and renewable energy sources such as a fuel cell system.
In addition, the system output will be transferred to an interactive LCD screen,
permanently housed in the main lobby. Here, employees, visitors, and children from
local schools can learn about solar energy and see exactly how much of an impact
the system is having on the environment each day, month, and year. In celebration
of the completion of this ambitious project, Alexion hosted a dedication ceremony
on June 18th, 2009. Watch Alexion's video about Solar PV.
